Hikau about softball

WALT: Identify syllables.
SC: Write a Haiku poem about softball.
First we practiced by finding out how many syllables were in our names.
I have 4 syllables in my name AL-EX-AN-DER

We just play’d softball
I missed the ball that they threw
Each person hit it

I swung the bat hard
Some people hit the ball
Our team was losing

We got people out
We wore comfortable gloves

We play’d on the field

Alex & Malulu how to choose a muesli bar.

I learnt that it is good to look at the labels of the bars that you eat.So you can see the amount of energy, fibre, fat and whole grain and I learnt that some bars are good for you and some bars are bad.

Alex_Mmm, That's Tasty!_

Question: Do our taste buds require smell?

Hypothesis:
I think you won’t be able to taste the flavour with your nose blocked. When you unblock your nose you will be able to taste the flavour more.

Materials:
  1. Jelly beans.
  2. Blind fold.
  3. A nose.
  4. Hands.
  5. A mouth

Procedure:
  1. Close your eyes.
  2. Pinch your nose shut with your finger and thumb.
  3. Put the jelly bean in your mouth and chew.
  4. Tell someone what you taste.
  5. Unblock your nose.
  6. Taste and record again.

Observations:
Siosifa covered his eyes and then he pinched his nose shut and chewed the jelly bean.He chewed the jelly bean and tasted pineapple. He told me and I recorded his answer. He unlocked his nose and tasted lime.

Conclusion:
My hypothesis was kind of correct because you could taste the flavour more when your nose was unblocked. It was also wrong because could taste the flavour when your nose was blocked.

Why we need 8 hours of sleep

Our bodies need 8 hours of sleep because that is how our brains rest. Some people need more sleep than 8 hours and some people need less.

Sleep is good for you because it helps our bodies grow.Sleep helps your body grow taller and stronger. If we do not sleep our bodies won’t be repaired for the next day. When you sleep it looks like you are dead but actually your heart and kidneys are still pumping blood.

It is important to get sleep because when you are sleeping the repairing process happens. This how broken bones heal. If you don’t get enough sleep you becoming grumpy and lazy because your body hasn't had enough time to repair your body.

So in conclusion, sleep is very important in life.Sleep helps you in different ways,it makes you taller and stronger, heals broken bones and cuts and it also repairs your entire body.

Alex_Tomatoes Fruit's Vegetable and Banana's_PukekoT4W1

  1. What do you think… Is sweet corn a fruit or a vegetable?

I think sweet corn is a fruit because on page 26 it defines fruit as the sweet and fleshy product of a tree or other plant that contains seeds and can be eaten as food.

What could we do to keep our fruit box fruit fresher longer?Store it and a container that is cold & open the lid so the fruit can get fresh air.

What do you notice about the fruit in our fruit box? The fruit in the fruit box rots fast.

How I spent my time in the holidays explanation-Alex

The holidays are a two week holiday when we don’t go to school. It is a chance to visit your family and friends and do house chores.

We have holidays to spend time with family and relax. People relax by sleeping or watching tv. People spend their time in the holidays different to other people.

I usually woke up around 11:00. Then I went  downstairs and ate breakfast. Next I went upstairs and had a shower and brushed my teeth. Then I went outside and played soccer with my brothers. After playing soccer I went inside and watched cartoons until I got bored.

I spent the last week of the holidays watching television, playing outside or playing games on my playstation 3. On the last day of the holidays I went to church in the morning and came home and watched tv.

I really enjoyed the holidays because I got to relax and spend more time with my family.

10 September 2014

Dear Mrs Tofa

I am writing to say thank you for speaking to us about how you became a teacher.

It was interesting to  learn that your Dad had to sell his business so your family could come to New Zealand and live a better life, and how you had to go to a new school and meet new friends.

I learnt that your Dad went back to Samoa and started his business up again. I also learnt that it must have been hard for you to grow up when your Dad was in Samoa and you were in New Zealand.

Did you want to come to New Zealand?
Was it your dream to become a teacher?

Yours sincerely

Powhiri

Today at school we had a powhiri for our new child care centre that is about to be built. The mayor Len Brown attended the powhiri. There were lots of politicians at the powhiri.Karena & Noellen did the karanga to welcome the mayor into the school. The students also did the haka.I felt excited because I have never attended a powhiri until today.

The first person to speak was Matua Jim we got up and welcomed the ministers to our school. After that Afe  Leona got out of his chair and did a speech then  we sang a song called E tasi ai Lasi. After that Len brown started to talk to us about what was happening. Then he sang a song called Te Aroha.

Next we all walked to where the sod turning was happening. The protester were where the gate was and were interrupting by yelling in the prayer. The protester chose the right time to protest because the mayor was their and Nick smith and the ministers.

Finally the 8 school captains walked to the place where the new houses are being built on taniwha street.Nick smith got in the digger and turned the soil after that we walked back to school and had a ceremony for the sculpture that was built.

Tae Kwon Do lesson

On the 29 of July we had a Tae kwon do lesson. Our instructor is miss Yu.She taught us how to tense our stomachs so if we got punched we didn’t get winded. She also told us that we should exhale when we punch. Miss Yu taught us how to punch and kick. She told us that we are only allowed to use tae kwon do as self defense to defend ourselves.

Museum Trip

Finally were going to the museum the thing I found most interesting was going into the volcano room.It was fun when the room started shaking.I learnt that you should always be prepared for natrual disasters because they can happen at any time. I want to learn more about storms because there was nothing about it at the museum.

Holiday Recount

In the winter holidays I went to my cousins house with my family. When we got  there me and my cousin Lee played on the ps3.We played black ops 2 zombies. It was fun because we got up to round 34.Then we played Black ops 2 online. The next game we played was NBA 2k 14 I chose Miami heat as my team because Lebron James is in that team. After we finished playing I went home because it was getting late.

Hangarau-technology

On fridays our class goes to Tamaki college to learn   digital technologies.  Hangarau is the maori word for technology. When we are in class,we have to use the kiore and the papa patuhi to log on to the rorohiko. On the rorohiko we have to use the ipurangi to log into the pae tukutuku fro digital technologies . Every week we access the maramataka to know what task we will do. Sometimes our teacher will send us messages on our imera.  Sometimes our teacher will give us dojo points on her waea pukoro, or she might also use her waea pukoro to take photos of us working. At school and home some of us use the rorohiko ponaho to do our work.

Matariki

Looks like telescopes, legends ,seven sisters, flying kites and dancing.

Smells like camp fires,Food ,smoked meat and wet grass.

Feels like winter night, love, high spirited and frosty winds.

Taste like salty and tuna, fish, kumara and smoked meat.

Sounds like celebration, tapping shoes, magic music and people laughing.

Seven sisters shining bright.
the sky lights up night after night.

Telescopes legends flying kites.
smoked meat  wet grass winter night.

Celebration.
Tapping shoes and magic music.
