Powhiri

Today at school we had a powhiri for our new child care centre that is about to be built. The mayor Len Brown attended the powhiri. There were lots of politicians at the powhiri.Karena & Noellen did the karanga to welcome the mayor into the school. The students also did the haka.I felt excited because I have never attended a powhiri until today.

The first person to speak was Matua Jim we got up and welcomed the ministers to our school. After that Afe  Leona got out of his chair and did a speech then  we sang a song called E tasi ai Lasi. After that Len brown started to talk to us about what was happening. Then he sang a song called Te Aroha.

Next we all walked to where the sod turning was happening. The protester were where the gate was and were interrupting by yelling in the prayer. The protester chose the right time to protest because the mayor was their and Nick smith and the ministers.

Finally the 8 school captains walked to the place where the new houses are being built on taniwha street.Nick smith got in the digger and turned the soil after that we walked back to school and had a ceremony for the sculpture that was built.
