Zoo Trip

On Friday the 4 of April room 10,7 and 9 went on a trip to Auckland zoo.We went to the zoo for our inquiry.

We meet three instructors named Laura, Richard and John.We visited Kea habitat. The kea bird is really big.We exited the kea habitat through these weird looking doors.

Next,we went with Laura to the mini rainforest. We saw lots of native trees like the Kawakawa tree.We saw the Kaka and the fantail. They are both interesting birds.

After that our last instructor Richard talked to us about the night forest. We were on our way to the kiwi enclosure when we saw massive eels.

Richard told us that when the female is going to lay its eggs it swims all the way to the Tongan ocean to lay them. When the eggs hatch the find their way back to the place where their parents grew up.

When we got into the kiwi habitat our eyes had to adjust  to the darkness.Gemima spotted two kiwis while we were in there. We had morning tea after we finished with the instructors. Lennyx thanked them for helping us to learn more about native birds.

After morning tea we got to walk around in groups and visit different animals. My favorite animal was the spider monkey. We visited the spider monkeys when they were eating. If their food is in the water they wrap their tails around a branch and reach to grab their food.

Finally we got on the bus and went back to school. It was good to learn about all the native birds and native trees. It was also good to learn some facts about the eel.
