The cold winter night

It was a dark cold night  and a boy named Michael was wondering the streets. He was walking as slow as a snail. He went to a haunted house down the street he was going to stay there the night. Michael was petrified he started to have second thoughts about staying at the haunted house.

Michael entered the house and didn’t know what was going to happen.He went in the living room and slept on the old broken couch. He could hear noises coming from the kitchen. David yelled “ who is it” the noise stopped and everything was silent. Michael went to see what was making the noise. He saw broken bottles all over the floor and rubbish all over the table.

He found his older brothers shoes lying next to the stairs. Michael had an idea of who was trying to scare him. He quietly walked up the stairs and saw his brother. Michael told his brother why are you scaring me. The brother said “ because you always show off”. They walked home and forgot about the day they went to the haunted house.

Bike skills

This morning J.S came to our class to teach us bike safety skills.The first thing he taught us was to wear bright coloured t-shirts to stand out and be visible on the road. On the road you can wear a vest with reflective tape on it. when you are riding your bike on the road you can wear reflective gear to be safe on the road, he said.

Bike check

We learnt to do a bike check today. We checked if both the brakes worked. We checked if the spokes weren’t wiggly, the tread wasn’t worn out and the bolts were tight. We checked if the bike had reflective gear on it. The most important thing on your bike is that you have a red reflective light on the back of your seat so cars from far away can see you . We checked our bikes for this.

The last thing J.S talked to us about was  that you need to wear a helmet when you ride your bike. He told us that if your helmet is cracked you can’t use it again. We adjusted the helmets to the size of our heads and off we went on our bikes having learnt a lot. It was a great day.

Today I have learnt how to use a line graph.

Tread Lightly Caravan

Today we went to the Tread Lightly caravan to learn about how to protect the Earth. We got into six groups. My groups first exhibit was the environmental footsteps. It had 22  questions  so we took turns answering them. The questions were about what you use in your house. We learnt about e-waste. There are three valuable metals.Copper Silver and Gold in computers. So we need to recycle them.

Next we used the magnifying glass and the microscope to look at tiny bugs and creatures that are useful to our planet Earth. We learnt that we should look after them.

We also learnt about the pollution in the air and about how we leave carbon footprints when we travel by air.

We need to respect and look after our precious planet.

Perimeter of 2D shapes

WALT find the Perimeter of 2D shapes

Formulae:

Perimeter of a Square = side + side + side + side or 4 x side
Example: The perimeter of a square of side  5cm = 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 20 cm or 4 x 5 = 20 cm

Find the perimeter of the following squares:

The perimeter of a square of side  10cm = 4 x 10= 40cm
The perimeter of a square of side  25cm = 4 x 10= 100cm
The perimeter of a square of side  5m = 4 x 10= 20m
The perimeter of a square of side  50m = 4 x 10= 200m
The perimeter of a square of side  1km = 4 x 1= 4km

Perimeter of a Rectangle = length + width + length + width or 2 x l + 2 x w
Example: The perimeter of a rectangle whose length is 6cm and width is 4cm = 6 + 4 + 6 + 4 = 20 cm or 2 x 6 + 2 x 4= 12 + 8 = 20 cm

Find the perimeter of the following rectangles whose lengths and widths are given below:
Rectangle 1 - length is 8cm and width is 5cm
Perimeter = 26cm

Rectangle 2 - length is 10cm and width is 7cm
Perimeter = 34cm

Rectangle 3 - length is 8m and width is 6m
Perimeter = 28m

Rectangle 4 - length is 16m and width is 10m
Perimeter = 52m

Rectangle 5 - length is 4km and width is 2km
Perimeter = 12km

Evaluation: Today I learnt to find the perimeter of 2D shapes.
